November Gratitude Stone 1 Faithfulness

November 1, 2016 1 By Mirm

Ps 116:12 What shall I return to the Lord for all His goodness/benefits to me?

The question of the verse is a very profound one. The Lord has given so much grace upon grace and the depths of his mercy cannot be plumbed. The psalmist lists several things as his response,  but the point of the question is that God’s blessings are so many that they cannot be counted.  We can never get to the end of the list.  Our ways of thanking and praising God need to be varied, habitual and numerous.  Just as partial obedience is not good, so partial thanks is worthless. Give credit where it is due. Give God the praise of all.  Just as skipping over one measure in a piece of music may spoil the grace of the music; unthankfulness for one mercy disparages our thanks for the rest.

In light of this season, I normally list the things I am grateful for, and this year I thought I would reflect on the importance of gratitude as a lifestyle and raise some Ebenezers as I discipline my life with praise. Our Ebenezers help us remember who God is and celebrate His faithfulness and lovingkindness. Our memories can intentionally reveal His presence, even when we didn’t realize it at the time!  They free us to rely on Him today and in all of our tomorrows. Just as God has been faithful in the past, he will continue to bless and strengthen us in our daily lives and every day in the future!

I need this reminder to record my personal history and set up a personal Ebenezer Stone, naming the events and people of my life that demonstrate God’s hand at work through to this day.

I praise you for your faithfulness to me.
