Time
These are a few of my thoughts on the sermon Sunday:
The Preacher says there is a time for everything under the sun. I know we all talk about time like it is a friend and we want more of it or we want it to last longer, but I am not so sure that time is “always on our side.” Peter Pan wanted to live without time so he would never grow up and his nemesis, Captain Hook hated clocks because they reminded him that time was fleeting (and there was a crocodile after him). And if time is so great why do we want to kill it?! It is never on our side and we never have enough of it on our hands. I am also not so sure I really want it to stand still – it would probably pick the worst moment to do so!
Do you think that time will tell?! I don’t. Time thinks it is of the essence, but one day (all in good time) it will cease and we will finally be free of it. We won’t have to borrow from it anymore and we won’t even think about it. I cannot fathom what it will be to live without hurry, beating the clock. I must say I won’t miss aging or exhaustion or waiting or…..
The pain of years that go by as memories fade is sufficient to remind me that living each day to the full is better than spending time reviewing nostalgia and turning back time. Time is a hurt that sings without relent. I cannot wait to live on the other side of it where there will be no more hurt or aging or goodbyes.
