We all are born with Super Powers
I read this article that talks about the miraculous ability of babies to read minds! It really isn’t mind reading but it is the amazing ability to read body language and facial expressions super acutely. They can also see things in extraordinary ways, distinguishing between sights and sounds that actually diminish as they move from one stage of development to another. By the time we are adults we are too busy and too serious to notice things we were able to perceive as infants and kids. We also are born with billions of neurons that shrink down to accommodate fewer synapses of the adult mind.
And yet, so many powers that are ours from birth actually continue to grow as we nurture and encourage them: things like creativity, love, awareness, forgiveness, purpose, truth, beauty, choice, healing and resilience, humor and vision, to name a few.
Look at some of them. It is amazing to consider that we have awareness that we are fully alive and capable; our full presence is the best way to accomplish anything worthwhile. Additionally we have the power to choose. It is the on/off switch to our power! I would say that every day, each moment, is a choice to live one way or another, to walk in the light, to choose joy, to make it count or not.
The power of purpose helps us to make sense out of our lives and helps us to see how we fit into the bigger picture. It grants perspective and focus. It is like a flashlight in a dark tunnel since it helps us find our way.
This dovetails into the power of honesty and truth and beauty. We love to wear masks as superheroes and yet God’s power shows up best in weak people. He uses foolish things to confound the wise. He takes our fears and vulnerability like kryptonite and uses it all for his glory and our greatest good. Our not-enoughness is more than enough for God.
Healing is a superpower that we often discount or ignore. Because we live in a world with so much death and disease we don’t think of even medicines and doctors as really being able to heal. Yet there is power in our bodies that can bring wholeness and holiness that are beyond all reason. The power of resilience is part of this superpower as we learn to fight back with joy and hope and thrive in spite of our circumstances.
We have the power of creativity. We were made in the image of the Creator so it is in our DNA, our operating system. Our superpower software has creativity as a free app! It is what helps us imaginatively and effectively use all our other superpowers! Along with this is the power of originality and being true to our real selves without trying to pretend we are someone we are not, or live in shame of the person God made us to be.
We have the power of love! The power of forgiveness is built into this superpower and can only come from the omnipotent King of Kings who forgave us while we were yet sinners. The Bible is clear that without the superpower of love all the other powers are worthless! Gal. 5:6 says that the only thing that counts is faith working itself out in love! Love believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. It never fails!
There are so many other superpowers I have not talked about like friendship and hope and Spirit. There is also the power of vision, and listening and flying! And don’t even get me started about the power of prayer!
