69 Years – Today is Corny Joke Day!
Before November 8th, 1955, before the twinkle in Lionel’s eye 9 months prior to that, before any life on planet earth began, Jim was loved and his life was orchestrated by a good God. And this loving God knew all about who Jim would become and who he would influence. He planned for us to marry and our gene pool would create 2 amazing human beings who He would trust us to raise while continuing to define and refine our character.
I cannot imagine what life would be like if Jim were still alive and I think trying would be dangerous and frustrating at best. Living in the “what ifs” is a waste of time. I miss his wisdom, his humor, his hand in mine. I miss hearing his voice singing in worship next to mine and I miss what never was – watching a relationship grow with Connor and Amanda. But while we wait for that day when our faith will be sight and we see him again, tt is better for me to just thankfully remember the gift that was Jim – a godly, smart, honest, wise, creative, talented, magical and musical, funny and kind minister, teacher, dad, son, brother, friend, husband!
I miss his wisdom, his humor, his hand in mine. I miss hearing his voice singing in worship next to mine and I miss what never was – watching a relationship grow with Connor and Amanda.
Jim was funny and punny and a pro at “dad” jokes long before he was a dad. Most people considered his humor in a class by itself. At his funeral we passed out Laffy Taffy and told the jokes on the wrappers to each other. Some family members and friends repeated his classic jokes aloud for the entire audience.
Laughter cures heavy hearts, sick bodies and builds friendships. It is contagious and happiness inducing. I highly recommend it – lots of it. I believe in laughter, humor and play so much that I started a business with a friend years ago. We called in Jest in Time. I am grateful for the gift of laughter and the simple way that it quickly changes perspective and instills hope and joy.
After Jim died, I dubbed his birthday “Corny Joke Day”. I even tried to have it added to the National Day calendar. So, in honor of my hilarious hubby I invite you to smile and laugh. Tell a joke or listen to one, knowing that a little laughter goes a long way and can help brighten your day or anyone else’s. I believe Jesus was the most joyful being on the planet and that God is a God of joy. Imagine a world without joy, smiles and laughter. No thank you. I only have this one life and I choose to live it with laugh lines. I invite you to do the same.
