Corny Joke Day!
Today is Jim’s Birthday! I made an apple pie and we are going to go miniature golfing to celebrate His life. He stopped growing older just before his 55th birthday but this is the 58th anniversary of the day he was born.
I have always found a reason to celebrate life and together we made up all kinds of special holidays. Every day might not be good, but there is good in every day. Life is worth celebrating and every day is a gift to open and enjoy. The Lord’s mercies are new every morning. And for the Christ follower, we are to be ambassadors of Joy and Hope! Jesus, after all, came to give us life more real and better than we ever dreamed of… Are you watching for it?!
So, the year after Jim died I created Corny Joke Day! Of course every day was corny joke day for Jim, but I felt that there is no better way to honor his memory than to share the gift of laughter with people around us. I think it is catching on; today in my email I had several jokes sent by one of my favorite people – Abby Bradbury
Q. What did one toilet say to the other toilet?
A. You look flushed…
A man died and went to The Judgment, they told him , “Before you meet with God I should tell you we’ve loorked over your life, and to be honest you really didn’t do anything particularly good or bad. We’e not really sure what to do with you. Can you tell us anything you did that can help us make a decision? The newly arrived soul thought for a moment and replied, “Yeah, once I was driving along and came upon a person who was being harassed by a group of thugs. So I pulled over, got out a bat, and went up to the leader of the thugs. He was a big, muscular guy with a ring pierced through his lip. Well, I tore the ring out of his lip, and told him he and his gang had better stop bothering this guy or they would have to deal with me!”
“Wow – that’s impressive. When did this happen?” “About three minutes ago,” came the reply.
PUPIL: Would you punish me for something I didn’t do?
TEACHER: Of course not.
PUPIL: Good, because I haven’t done my homework.
So celebrate Jim with me! Tell a joke and laugh and play!
(You should do that everyday…but this will be good practice)
I celebrate him with you and all the joy and fun you both brought to my life over these past 34 years.
